Weekly Challenge - Week of May 11, 2009

This is our first challenge, so this is a learning process for us as much as it is for everyone else. We decided to go with a three-word prompt that includes an event or situation, an emotion, and a game feature or item. Use this trio of words and take your scene in any direction you want to go.

This is NOT a competition. There are no winners or losers. This is a chance for anyone who wants to stretch their staging capabilities and try out some different scenes. It's meant to be a fun, creative exercise.

Here are the very few challenge rules we've come up with:

1. Maximum of 10 Pictures

2. Pictures Only – This is an exercise in storytelling through pictures. Try and convey what's happening without falling back on words to carry the action. You're welcome to include some text at the end to explain what you were going for, but let the pictures speak for themselves.

3. Post In Your LJ – Because pictures can be rather large, we're asking people to post their responses in their own LJ accounts and provide a link back here as a reply to this thread. Also, please do not friends lock your response.

4. Provide a Warning for Mature Images – If the scene you've put together would require an R rating or would be considered NSFW (not safe for work), please put a warning with your link so people are aware of what they're going to be seeing.

At the end of the week (probably on Saturday or Sunday) we'll gather all the links to the responses and post them in an end-of-the-week post to show them off for everyone to see.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. We're also open to suggestions on how to improve and make this even more fun for everyone involved.

Quick question: do we have to use all three words or just one?
May. 11th, 2009 09:11 pm (UTC)
We'd like to see folks use all three, but I think as long as you use at last two, it's okay. That seem reasonable? :)

So, do I post the link here then?

May. 12th, 2009 12:18 am (UTC)
That's exactly it! There's some great shots there. :)

So I have this for the prompt, it's pretty simple, but I hope it's ok: http://dgjamie.livejournal.com/36051.html?#cutid1

Jamie, this was awesome. It took me a minute, trying to figure out if I knew these sims (since the girl kinda looked like Elise), but then I saw your note that these aren't legacy sims. Still, very well done. :)

I have a question: Can we use any Sim(s) we want, including Maxis pre-mades?
May. 13th, 2009 12:42 am (UTC)
Any Sim you want to use is fine.

Sorry if my link doesn't work. I'm a total LJ newbie.

Nice one! I like the shot of him picking up the photo. I'm not positive that I'm interpreting it correctly but I think I understand what's going on.

Woo, finished! Only took me 7+ hours, thanks to crashing, perfectionist tendencies, and what-not. I had a lot of fun and am really proud of the outcome, even if I did need another slide or two. <3

Thanks for the challenge!

You had some great shots in this :) The poses you chose carried the story along very well.

Thanks for putting this comm together, I am looking forward to getting to practice with the different prompts!

I enjoyed this one a lot, you had some really nifty shots. I really liked the shot of Melody lighting the giraffe on fire.

I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying this. It's been fun seeing everyone's interpretations of the theme.

Here's my take on it. http://ndainye.livejournal.com/45162.html

That was so, so good! The transition from the gift photo to where he got the money for the gifts was so sad, I really feel for her!

Here's mine: http://honorkid54.livejournal.com/15464.html You'll have to scroll to the right to see the full picture, due to the new theme :)

I'm rather iffy about it, but I hope you like it.

A bit of a late entry I know but here's mine: http://fairyindia.livejournal.com/

It's my first proper time of staging scenes but I gave it a go. I hope it's okay :)

I think you're right about the lighting over the pictures, too bad the house was glitching. I could follow where you were going though and you had some really good shots :)
